The Australian Hypnotherapy Register is presently kept by the staff of the Hypnosis Australia Journal an online electronic professional journal for Australian hypnotherapists and health professionals involved in hypnosis. The hypnosis trained professionals listed on this site are all members of hypnosis origanisations for health care professionals involved in hypnosis for therapeutic means. Those associations have put their names forward to the public as accredited hypnosis professionals but the register is not involved in that process and relies upon the relevant professional associations to monitor and supervise their members. All professional who have secondary disciplines must also be members of a specific hypnosis association to appear on this register.
Founded
This register was founded by Dr Tracie O’Keefe DCH, a Doctor of Clinical
Hypnotherapy in May 2007 with the staff of the Hypnosis Australia online
journal. The register's foundation was in response to public confusion
over the many registers that existed that validated hypnotherapists
and the public's confusion over those registers. It is also an exercise
in brining together the whole hypnosis industry in a collective manor.
Each professional listed on the register is a member of a professional
association for the regulation of hypnotherapy and therapeutic hypnosis
and must abide by their code of ethics. Any complaints about a professional
must be addressed to the relevant professional association concerned.
The register does not support the use of hypnosis for entertainment
and no one involved in hypnosis for entertainment is allowed on the
register.
